Weight loss for pre-empty nester women who don't like working out

How To Lose Weight After 40
(And Why You’re Not Crazy If It Feels Harder Than It Used To)

I’ve been asked (hmm…and noticed myself), why it becomes harder to lose weight once you turn 40? When my girlfriends and I chat, we all agree that our moms never struggled with their weight until they were 40.

A coincidence or not? I decided to do a little investigative work to see if it was just an excuse or if it’s really true.

What I found out is…YES, WOMEN GAIN WEIGHT AROUND 40! I wasn’t just imagining it, and neither are you!

Reasons Why Women Gain Weight Around Age 40

Hormones. You can’t help the fact that your hormones start changing. Around age 40, most women start entering Perimenopause (oh, joy!). Your hormones start to fluctuate, which affects you physically and emotionally (sorry hubby…it’s my hormones!). Our bodies also start to experience insulin resistance to all the processed foods we eat. The insulin resistance causes food to be stored as fat (mostly in the belly…hello muffin top!).

Stress. This is a tough one. As women, we have a lot on our plate. And for some reason we have a really hard time saying “no” and just keep piling on the activities. As our children get older, there are more things asking for our attention. And, let’s face it, we take care of ourselves LAST. Stress causes us to eat more. Stress causes us to sleep less. Stress causes our bodies to store fat because your body thinks it needs the stored fat for survival. WHAT?!

Body Composition. We tend to lose muscle and gain fat during this time. Your muscles actually deteriorate. Fun times! And the fat may target your abdomen, which causes a slower metabolism. Actually, your body composition starts changing in your thirties, so if you’re under 40 and struggling with weight gain, that’s normal too.
Wow! Aren’t I just the bearer of GREAT news?

Well, there is GOOD news…you can combat it! You aren’t doomed to be fat for the rest of your life!

3 TIPS TO BATTLE WEIGHT GAIN:

Consume whole, non-processed foods and more protein. DUH? How many times have we heard that! But it’s so true!

Reduce Stress. Get more sleep (at LEAST 8 hours per night). Don’t take on too much on your calendar… say it with me … “No, I’m sorry, we can’t come!” Do things that help relieve your stress (read a book, take a bath, go for a walk, garden, etc.). Put it on your schedule if you have to! That time is YOURS.

Exercise 5 times a week with at least 2 of those days including strength training. Strength training helps boost your metabolic rate…which helps you not gain weight.
Those are great to do…but why don’t we do them? Truthfully, it seems a little overwhelming to figure out.

There was a recent post in my neighborhood Facebook group that read: In search of a unicorn: Remote, work-from-home, part-time job Make my own hours Not MLM Not cold calling I've done Door Dash before but don't want to put any more wear/tear on my car. I'm an efficient typist. I have 13+ years of self-taught graphic design (Photoshop & Illustrator) experience. I'm tech-savvy, creative, and I learn quickly. Any ideas? It made me wonder why Network Marketing/MLM jobs get such a bad rap? I get it, I used to avoid the lady at my church who always wanted me to have a home party for her. And, I said “no” to all the people who introduced me to their opportunities. A few bad apples might have left a bad taste in your mouth too. However, I remember reading a book about Mary Kay Ash when I was in elementary school. The business she created allowed her to be present for her kids while also building a business. That was something I always desired. And the business model she created also made sense. It was a lot of people coming together to do a little which compounded into something big. As a stay at home mom, I was getting tired of being strapped financially and I wanted some play money. I didn’t want to work outside of the home because my kids were my priority and I wanted to be fully available to them. I was approached by my BFF about a business. At first, I said no and began to avoid her like the lady at my church. But, then I started to become curious about the business opportunity. I’d seen how well the products worked for my BFF and her husband. And, I remembered Mary Kay Ash’s network marketing business. This business opportunity wasn’t selling makeup, pills, or a face cream but a lifestyle change that would create a ripple effect for those who used the products. It was what I personally needed for my health and it made sense. I can tell you the truth about network marketing. It is the best business model I have found for women who want to work their own hours, has a small start-up cost, and allows them to leverage their time by working as a team. It takes hard work, diligence, and being coachable. You are the type who isn’t afraid to try something new and wants to create a ripple effect that can make an impact on generations to come. Let’s make a lasting impact together. More information about how you can join me in changing lives can be found here .
